Moimir Papalescu & the Nihilists se intorc la Bucuresti pentru un nou concert

Grupul MOIMIR PAPALESCU & THE NIHILISTS s-a format in vara anului 2003 si refrenul cantecului „Summer Deviation“ cu textul „REFRESH YOUR MIND“ a avut atunci efectul unui fulger din cerul senin. Aceasta piesa nu a devenit numai un hit alternativ ci, din inregistrarea ei in studio a rezultat lansarea albumului-debut „ANALOGUE VOODOO“ (2004, X – Production / Manipulation Records). Ideea muzicala e exprimata clar: predomina e–clash-ul, electropunk-ul, reminiscente country, experimente cu tehnica digitala si analoaga, chitara intunecata a post-punk-ului, dar se gasesc si influente clare de la minimalismul electronic al Suicide sau Cabarest Voltaire, prin psychobilly de garaj gen The Cramps, pana la sugar pop, obscur si psihedelic, Lee Hazlewood sau Nancy Sinatra.

De la lansarea acestui album-debut grupul a tinut sute de concerte prin toata Republica Ceha si in strainatate. Au devenit headliner-ul multor festivaluri de muzica nu doar alternative ci si de mainstream si au aparut la aceeasi scena cu vedete ca Mignon, Warren Suicide, Atomizer, The Young Gods sau Iggy & The Stooges.

Moimir Papalescu & the Nihilists sunt caracterizati de fascinantele spectacole live pline de energie punk, sunet masiv, electro beat si electro rock´n´roll-ul crud; o imagine vizuala impecabila, expresia congeniala a cantaretei La Petite Sonja si a cantaretului si chitaristului Hank J. Manchini; barbatul cu fata lui Bela Lugosi, un guru al muzicii electronice cehe Moimir Papalescu; unn experimentator si saxofonist Peter Van Krbetz si tobosarul Wratislav Placheta.

Moimir Papalescu and the Nihilists (comprised of singer La Petite Sonja, singer/guitarist Hank Mancini, electro-pioneer Papalescu, saxophonist and experimenter Peter Van Krbetz, and drummer Wratislav Placheta) have just released their highly anticipated second album, “Lewis Neptune“.

The band first appeared on the Czech music scene in Spring 2003 with their instant hit single, “Summer Deviation.“ Its refrain, “Refresh Your Mind,“ was a much-needed wake-up call to the stagnating Czech underground. Not content with a one-hit revolution, they soon released an equally innovative full-length album, “Analogue Voodoo“ (2004, X – Production / Manipulation Records), which, true to its name, managed to mix the band’s favorite pet sounds – early Suicides, Cramps-style psychobilly, and even Sinatra and Hazlewood’s dark sugarpop – into a fresh sound all their own. The album’s clean production, minimalist beats, and sexy-hip lyrics won it instant praise among Czech music fans and the Music Press alike. And in 2005 the “revolution“ was officially recognized, when, at the Czech Grammys, Papalescu and the Nihilists picked up the award for Best Album of the Year. Following the Grammys, the band caught the attention of Berlin’s Pale Music Int., one of Germany’s most progressive, electro-alternative labels, and producers of such artists as Mignon, Peaches, Kid Congo Powers, Cobra Killer, Alexander Hacke, Der Plan and many others. This past spring the label released both a 12-inch vinyl EP (featuring remixes by Sunshine, Steve Morell, Marc Lenzi, and Elektralabel), as well as a re-edition of “Analogue Voodoo“ for the German and European markets.
