That has to be the least surprising headline you read all season, right? If so, Grant Hill’s reputation may unfairly precede him — last night’s game against the Pacers was the first that he’s missed all year. And besides, his current ailment is the very definition of “fluke injury.” From the Arizona Republic:
Hill arrived for the team’s morning shootaround Wednesday and felt ill. He thought it was the flu, particularly because guard Raja Bell had the flu last week. Because Hill did not have flu symptoms, Suns head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson sent Hill to the hospital, where a CT scan of his abdomen revealed an early stage of appendicitis. The appendectomy was performed by laparoscope, which quickens the recovery with less of an incision. The procedure will prevent Hill from any physical activity for a week.
After putting his feet up for a week or so, Hill will presumably begin limited work in practice before returning to the court in about 2-3 weeks. If it had to happen, it’s fortunate it happened now: the Suns face a team that’s currently over .500 just three times over the next 11 games. Boris Diaw will move into the starting lineup and Marcus Banks will be bumped up into the rotation.
