Dogs and cats, living together, mass hysteria. We’re going to have a woman president. An actual negro has a shot at the presidency as well. But what’s even more amazing is that two people who by rights ought to hate one another as much as two people can are schmoozing.

It’s worse than the Hatfield vs. the McCoys.
It’s bigger than me and Opie.
It’s got more animosity than Bill Green has toward Jon Delano.
It’s more explosive than the cold war.
It’s bigger than a bread box.
I think there’s a yeast infection joke in there somewhere, but I digress.

. NEWSWEEK has learned that the billionaire so eager to endear himself to the former president was Richard Mellon Scaife—once the Clintons’ archenemy and best-known as the man behind a “vast, right-wing conspiracy” that Hillary Clinton said was out to destroy them.

Scaife was no run-of-the-mill Clinton hater. In the 1990s, the heir to the Mellon banking fortune contributed millions to efforts to dig up dirt on President Clinton. He backed the Clinton-bashing American Spectator magazine, whose muckrakers produced lurid stories about Clinton’s alleged financial improprieties and trysts. Scaife also financed a probe called the Arkansas Project that tried, among other things, to show that Clinton, while Arkansas governor, protected drug runners.

MacYapper – While it is common in politics to dig up dirt on political opponents and use it if you absolutely have to, what Scaife did raised the bar of unconscionability.

He gave the appearance of legitimate journalism while all along being hell bent on a crusade to publish dirt, regardless of the validity or legitimacy.

The crap he and Chris Ruddy put in the Trib was beyond bullshit. Probably the worst thing of all was implying that Bill and Hill killed Vince Foster. Do you remember how much time was wasted actually wondering whether these two were killers? Or thugs who protected drug runners?

Bill was just a horny toad, not the first or last to occupy the oval office.

The Arkansas Project largely came up empty, and most of the stories were ignored by all but the most avid Clinton antagonists. But one Scaife-backed conspiracy theory got widespread attention. In 1993, White House aide and Clinton friend Vince Foster was found dead of a gunshot wound in a park outside Washington, D.C. Three official investigations concluded the death was a suicide. Yet Scaife dollars helped promote assertions that Foster had been murdered—the not-so-subtle subtext being that the Clintons had something to do with it. Scaife hired Christopher Ruddy, a reporter who doggedly pursued the conspiracy theory in a Scaife newspaper, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Though discredited, the story resonated with people who believed Clinton was hiding dark secrets.

MacYapper – These nutbags of course still exist in spades. And they’ll be back once Hillary gets the nod. Or Bill gets the nob.

The two men chatted amiably over lunch for more than two hours, and the visitor pledged to write Clinton’s foundation a generous check.

What is going on here? Scaife declined to comment, but Ruddy tells NEWSWEEK he and Scaife believe Clinton’s life since leaving office has been “very laudable,” and that he is doing “very important work representing the country when the U.S. is widely resented in the world.” He said they never suggested Clinton was involved in Foster’s death, and insisted they were not among those hyping alleged Clinton sex scandals, though he acknowledged their work may have encouraged others.

MacYapper – I never did nuttin’ except spread vicious unfounded rumors and sold my journalistic soul to a billionaire fellow nutbag. I’m clean, I tell ya, I’m clean.

Whatever the reasons for Scaife’s change of heart, it’s not hard to figure out why the Clintons would embrace a former nemesis. As they prepared for Hillary’s presidential run, the Clintons made quiet attempts to disarm, or at least neutralize, some of their most vocal opponents. Last year Hillary accepted an offer from Rupert Murdoch (who always hedges his bets) to host a fund-raiser for her Senate campaign.

MacYapper – Keep your enemies closer. But not too close. You don’t want to take it up the backside when you’re not looking.

Billary’s attempt at defanging the most vicious dogs is probably brilliant, if not a little disheartening. Welcome to politics. Welcome to America.

I’m a guy who is still seething over two watershed bullshit moments in American politics.

1. The Clinton Impeachment, still the biggest waste of time and money in the history of the republic that doesn’t involve a war.

2. That nutty little thing called the stolen election.

So it’s hard for me to witness Bill kissing up to Dickie Cougar.

But it’s all about winning. And as much as I’m an Edwards man, Hill still looks inevitable and I believe she’ll beat Tutti Fruity, Oh Rudy, like a rented mule.
Shit, with all the Scaife cash, they can buy the freaking mule.

Tuesday night at the Brillo Box, 4104 Penn Avenue in Lawrenceville, I will be among those performing at Gab Bonesso’s Underground Comedy Explosion. OK, she doesn’t really call it that, but I enjoy hype. 9pm.

I was informed the other day that someone walked out of the Improv when they thought one of my jokes was particularly tasteless. So I thought I’d try to assemble my most tasteless material of all and present it to yinz there tomorrow night.
Gab will be there. So will Mo Mozuch and Jason Kirsch.

The Brillo Box is an intimate but groovy venue.
Everything’s always a lot looser there, which is Gab’s reason for choosing it.
So if you’re feeling frisky they serve whisky.
