From the Sauerberg for U.S. Senate campaign
(Western Springs, IL) - Today, the Senate rejected Dick Durbin’s DREAM Act - a plan to force taxpayers to subsidize the college tuition of illegals. Republican candidate for the United States Senate, Steve Sauerberg, M.D., has roundly criticized the legislation because it rewards illegal behavior and encourages illegal immigration.
“This legislation is certainly a dream for illegal immigrants, but it’s a nightmare of the taxpayers of Illinois,” said Sauerberg. “Dick Durbin’s radical legislation would actually encourage illegal immigration by forcing taxpayers to fund illegal immigrants’ college tuition.”
Dick Durbin’s disastrous record on immigration includes support for a $2.6 trillion amnesty plan; opposition to building a fence; incentives to reward those who came here illegally; and even special legislation that Durbin personally introduced to protect illegal aliens who are convicted felons.
Sauerberg, in stark contrast to Senator Durbin’s radical left-wing approach to our immigration crisis, has offered common-sense principles to guide his approach to this issue when he is representing Illinois in the U.S. Senate. “I will not offer you the same failed answers that Dick Durbin and the Washington crowd offer you,” continued Sauerberg. “Instead, what I offer you is simple - my pledge that when I am the Senator from Illinois, I will fight:
1) to secure our borders,
2) to oppose any effort to provide amnesty or incentives to illegals and
3) to immediately deport illegal immigrants upon completion of serving prison time for breaking our laws.”
“Today’s vote is further proof that Dick Durbin is a part of our immigration problem,” concluded Sauerberg. “After 37 years on the government payroll Dick Durbin has forgotten the values of the people of Illinois and has abdicated his responsibility to find common sense solutions to our immigration crisis.”
