I have recently within the past 48 hours come to discover and decide that psycobilly music is exactly where its at and where I want to be.

I’m currently in a ska band and we are doing pretty alright. We get payed well to play bar gigs and every so often we get to play a real rock star show when we play our home town. We are actually going into the studio this weekend to record our first professional demo. But to be honest, ska isn’t where I want to be as a musician. It’s a fun style of music and our band is actually sounding really great lately but i definately can’t really put any of my own self into the music because our lyrics are bogus (our singer fancies himself a real deep thinking political guy), and it just really isn’t my thing. I never would have thought that i would be in a ska band and I am only in it because the opportunity presented itself. Plus, the band is becoming a chore and not fun anymore. Being in a band gets to me sometimes.

I am ridiculed within my band for liking “hillbilly” music and it doesn’t really bother me because it’s more or less true. I love country music (excluding most modern CMT GAC type stuff) and I love rock-a-billy from all time periods and I connect with the lyrics and I dig the sound so much. Hopefully soon I can find some like-minded dudes to start a project with. Just a three man thing. Guitar, dog-house bass, and drums.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Tiger Army and the HorrorPops and the Nekromantix and tons of local bands and out of town ones that breeze through Flagstaff.

Anybody want to give me some ideas or advice?
