(THE ARTICLE: The state GOP chairman says Republicans hope to take advantage of the tight Democratic primary. Chairman Andy McKenna tells WJBC, Senator John McCain is positioned to take an early victory in the primary. And, that would give him time to present a positive message months before the Democrats choose a nominee. McKenna says he’s not worried that Super Tuesday results suggest a lot of Republicans pulled Democratic ballots to vote for Senator Barack Obama. He says statewide, the GOP saw a solid turnout. But, he admits an Obama nomination would worry Illinois Republicans in November. McKenna says because McCain did so well in Illinois, if he wins the party nomination, Illinois could become a major player in the presidential race. Hillary Clinton did earn some Illinois delegates on Tuesday. Associated Press figures show that Clinton won at least 31 delegates yesterday, compared to 62 for Obama. About 60 are up in the air. On the Republican side, McCain picked up 54 Illinois delegates. Mitt Romney got two, and one delegate is still undecided.)
