Let’s see, shall we. Your starting quarterback is Cleo Lemon, you’re starting running back is Jesse Chatman, and your top two receivers won’t be helping the team the rest of the season because of either trade or injury. That my friends, is the formula for an 0-7 season. But can it get worse? Can these Dolphins do the opposite of the ‘72 Dolphins? A lot of people are weighing the possibilities (I’m not too worried). But the ‘72 boys are not too happy with what they’re seeing:
“Pathetic,’’ Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti said of the Dolphins’ personnel mistakes. ‘’Trent Green is starting to shape up as a pretty good move, huh?’’ he said, sarcasm dripping. “And Jason Allen has really fulfilled expectations.’’
Former Dolphins running back Jim Kiick called these Dolphins the worst team he has ever seen. ‘’Embarrassing to the franchise,’’ he said. “We feel for the current players. It hurts. [But] I couldn’t believe how bad they were. The defensive backfield is terrible. They’re at least three or four years from [contending].’’
Buoniconti even shredded the Dolphins for letting Wes Welker go while keeping Chris Chambers, and ripped them for signing Joey Porter. Wow. Talk about all the wheels coming off the bus. Guess the sales staff won’t be expecting any donations to the booster club in the offseason. As for the Dolphins, I still think they can win two games. Besides, this is the NFL — things change quickly from year-to-year. I’m not expecting a playoff run anytime soon, but they’ll be respectable before long. And how about those cocky-ass ‘72 summabitches? Serious attitude, huh?
